At least 1 in 25 Australian children are Autistic. Autism is a lifelong condition and there is no evidence of increased prevalence, just increased diagnoses. Autism is a natural difference in brain structure that may be characterised by differences in social interaction, language use, sensory differences and a preference to focus on topics of interest.
Mount Alexander Shire is home to Australia’s first neurodiversity arts festival, Neurokin Arts Festival (formerly Sensory Sanctuary). Neurokin Arts Festival will be held by Louise Cooper and ARCANE in June 2025.
Recently Louise wrote the book Welcome Neurokin, I am Autistic in consultation with the Autistic community. It gives a strengths-based insight into Autism and is available for purchase from Stoneman’s Bookshop.
