Learn practical skills to sew gifts, clothes and homewares.
Perfect for beginners ready to build confidence at the sewing machine! In this friendly, hands-on class, you’ll learn the essentials—from threading and tension, to stitching techniques, basic machine maintenance, and troubleshooting common issues.
Whether you’re completely new or just a bit rusty, we’ll guide you step-by-step to help you feel comfortable, capable, and inspired to sew.
This course is especially suited to those who have a machine at home but haven’t yet mastered using it. We encourage you to bring your machine along!
By the end of this short course, participants will be able to:
- Thread a sewing machine
- Sew straight lines and corners
- Follow a basic pattern
- Choose the right fabric for a project
- Start sewing simple projects at home
After this course: you could tell employers you have these new skills, do another course at Castlemaine Community House, study fashion, textiles or upholstery at TAFE or University, or apply for a job.
