This course focuses on the essentials of professional arts practice and will help you take your work from home studio to exhibition.

Over 9 sessions, students will explore the diverse components of professional practice, event management, grant writing, gallery and studio arrangements, marketing and communication, business skills, and processes for evaluation.

The course will culminate in the planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of a group art exhibition organised by students at Newstead Arts Hub.

Facilitator: Kir Larwill

Kir is a printmaker and painter living and working in Central Victoria, Australia, making works on paper, both prints and drawings, and paintings.

Kir has been exhibiting for over 20 years, after changing direction in her late 30s via a Visual Arts Diploma. Her work is held in public and private collections, and she has been a finalist in prizes including Banyule Works on Paper and Castlemaine Art Museum Experimental Print Prize, Mildura Trienniale Print Prize, Inkmasters Biennial Print Exhibition, and Swan Hill Print & Drawing Acquisitive Awards.

Kir was a founding member of Castlemaine Press in 2014, a community access printmaking studio, and Chaired the committee for 7 years. She is co-founder of Artpuff, a showing and making space in Castlemaine.

She has extensive experience teaching, mentoring and supporting artists in their practice and brings to this course a wealth of professional arts practice experience and skills.
