Get inspired by your favorite artist and transform worn & well-loved art studio chairs into unique functional artworks through creative design, textile techniques, and sustainable up-cycling!
This 8-week creative up-cycling course will see the worn art studio chairs at Castlemaine Community House transformed through the artistic interpretation of participants into a vibrant, functional collection of textile artworks.
Each participant will draw inspiration from selected artists to design and create unique fabric appliqué pieces, which will be fitted to restored chair seats and back panels. In doing so, the course becomes both a creative journey and a practical restoration project—breathing new life into existing furniture while celebrating individual artistic expression.
Beyond skill-building in sewing, design, and textile art, this project directly contributes to the renewal and beautification of our shared community space. The completed chairs will remain in the studio as a lasting feature of the art programs, offering colour, character, and inspiration for all who use the space.
This is more than a class—it is a collaborative transformation of place, where creativity restores function, and community art becomes part of the everyday environment.
After this course: you could tell employers you have these new skills, do another course at Castlemaine Community House, study fashion, textiles or upholstery at TAFE or University, or apply for a job.
