Drive Forward is an introductory course designed for those who want to explore or enter the automotive industry. The course combines practical, hands-on car mechanics with the workplace skills that employers actually look for: clear communication, problem-solving, professionalism, and confidence.

Students spend time in both the classroom and the workshop, getting under the bonnet, learning how vehicles work, and building real skills they can use from day one in a workplace.

As part of the program, students will have the opportunity to connect with local employers through workplace visits, workshop tours, and staff shadowing experiences. Mock interviews will help build confidence and prepare students for the real thing, while direct contact with industry professionals will give you a feel for the work environment and a genuine opportunity to explore local employment pathways.

What You’ll Learn

The course covers the full picture, from how to check and change your oil, to understanding a vehicle’s braking, electrical, and engine systems. Alongside the mechanical content, participants develop the foundational skills needed to work confidently in an automotive environment: reading service reports and safety data sheets, writing job cards, calculating parts costs, and communicating clearly with customers and colleagues.
