About the Sewing Circle
Sewing Circle is a space to bring your own sewing projects, work at your own pace and connect with a community of people who enjoy sewing.
This is not a structured sewing class and there is no set project or weekly curriculum. Each week, you decide what you would like to work on and what you would like to achieve.
You might want to sew buttons onto a garment, add side pockets to a dress, take up the hem on a pair of jeans or a skirt, make alterations, work on a new project or finally finish something you’ve had sitting at home.
The Sewing Circle is about sharing knowledge, experience and ideas. You can ask questions, troubleshoot sewing challenges together, share techniques and learn from the experiences of other participants.
How the Sewing Circle Works
Each week you will:
  • Bring your own sewing project, materials and equipment.
  • Work independently on your project at your own pace.
  • Decide what you want to achieve and how you want to approach it.
  • Research techniques, instructions or solutions you need before arriving where possible.
  • Share your sewing knowledge, ideas and experience with others.
  • Talk through sewing challenges and help each other find solutions.
  • Learn from the different approaches, skills and experiences within the group.
Facilitator Support
Ell and Lotte will alternate weekly, bringing their different sewing experience and knowledge to the Sewing Circle.
Facilitators will be available to share techniques, demonstrate steps, offer suggestions and help troubleshoot sewing challenges. They can help you work out how to approach a particular task or problem, while also encouraging participants to share their own knowledge and learn from each other.
The Sewing Circle is not a one-to-one tuition class. Facilitator support will be shared across the group rather than providing individual instruction for the duration of each participant’s project.
The aim is to build confidence in working independently while creating a space where everyone can ask questions, share skills and support each other’s sewing adventures.
Your Project, Your Sewing Journey
The Sewing Circle is intentionally flexible. There is no expectation that everyone will be working on the same thing or progressing at the same pace.
You might spend one session finishing a garment, another working on an alteration, or several sessions slowly developing a more involved project.
You are welcome to come and go as you feel during the 2.5-hour session.
Our intention is to foster a supportive sewing community where people can share their knowledge, personal sewing challenges and adventures, while building confidence in working independently on their own projects.
Please Bring
Your own sewing project, fabric and materials, patterns or instructions, and anything else you need to work on your project.
Please come prepared and do some research before the session where possible. The Sewing Circle provides a space for shared knowledge, support and community, with facilitators available to offer guidance, techniques and practical help along the way.
