Growing Abundance Project is getting excited about our upcoming Harvest season!

And we’re changing things up a little… Previously, Harvest with Growing Abundance (GA) has been focused on fruit, but going forward we’re expanding it to include vegetables too. The reasoning for this is that the community pantries we donate Harvest produce to, across Mount Alexander Shire, would love to offer fresh, locally grown produce all year round. Therefore, we’re exploring the extension of our Harvest season and produce to meet this demand, at the same time as reducing food waste.

Plus! We know that many in our community love to grow produce simply for the joy of growing it, but are unable to consume all they grow and harvest, and are keen to share their abundance. Additionally, we now have the Food Relief Network in Mount Alexander Shire, enabling us to smoothly connect Harvests and growers with points of sharing produce. This includes Community Pantries located in Castlemaine (Castlemaine Community House, Castlemaine Safe Space, Salvation Army and Church of Christ), Maldon, and the Harcourt Valley Community House.

So, wondering how you can be part of all this?

Well, there are a few options:

  • Do you anticipate having an abundance of produce (fruit/veg) starting in December or after, and would like to either self-harvest and donate, or have a GA volunteer crew come do the Harvest for you?
  • Would you like to be a GA Harvest Crew Volunteer?
  • Or, take it next level and become a GA Harvest Lead Volunteer?

If any of this sounds like you, or you’d like further information, please get in touch with Kez via communitydevelopment@cch.org.au
